High Frequency Word Games

My second grade class is constantly working on high frequency words! Our school corporation has a list of 120 high frequency words that all second grade students are expected to know by the end of the school year. We test them on these words quarterly during standards based report card testing. I am constantly trying to come up with ways to keep students excited about learning these words. I am currently doing a baseball theme in my classroom as we have a fieldtrip to a baseball game in a few weeks. I designed a two-player game that I use during guided reading groups, intervention groups, and literacy stations! Here is a preview of what it looks like!

This is a two-player game. The students place all the cards face down and read the high frequency word. If the student read the word correctly they get to keep the card. If it is incorrect it goes to the bottom of the pile. If you turn over a You're Out card you must return all your cards. The person with the most cards at the end is a winner!

I laminate the papers so that I can use them for years to come, cut apart the cards, and store in a gallon zip-lock bag. My students LOVE this!

You can get it for FREE on my Teachers Pay Teachers store!
